For your third blog, trace the development of one of the following characters in the Book Thief. What are your thoughts regarding this character? What is his/her (or it's, in the case of Death's)perspectives? What conflicts does this character face? What are your character's perceptions regarding the Nazi regime, the imminence of War, the subjugation of the Jews? How are your character's perspectives unique? Do you like this character? Why/Why not? Etc.
My thoughts toward Liesil as a character deffinitly changed throughout the book. At the beginning of the book I felt bad because of the fact that she did not know how to read or write. This is one of the many conflicts that she faces. An other conflict that Liesel faces would be all the criticism from the people around her. I like this character because she shows that she wants to learn how to do things such as read and write.
I think that Liesel is an interesting character as well. It did sound really awful that she didn't know how to read or write, but as she starts to learn with papa I felt like she really enjoyed learning these things and also being able to spend quality time with a loved one.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts about Liesel pretty much stayed the same throughout, except for when she gets into stealing with Rudy and the other boys. I thought that it would be a one time thing at first just to get food, like apples from the trees, but then you see it progresses as she begins stealing books constantly for her enjoyment.
I also picked Liesel because her character is so interesting. I completely agree with you it is so horrible when we first meet her, she is illiterate. Then, Hans teaches her to read. She loves books too! She has a lot of desire to read and become a good reader. I feel as though she really changes [for the better] by the end of the novel because of all the people who impacts her.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Liesel faces many challenges especially the one concerning her ability to read. I think she is shows many sides to her in the book, which gave me many perceptions of her. Mostly i felt that her passion and drive o be able to read gave me an overall good impression of her.
ReplyDeleteI picked Liesel too. I felt bad for her the whole novel, however, not just the beginning. I also enjoyed her determination to learn to read and write.
